First time on NCL. Have sailed many other lines with my wife (Celebrity, Princess, RCL, Carnival) but this was the first time sailing with the kids (kids 8,10, adults late thirties.) We booked this cruise as it was during our kids school's April break, its close proximity to us (we are from Northern NJ), and relatively attractive price for 2 adjoining cabins. On board aqua park, climbing wall, bungee etc.. were all draws as we were looking for a kid/family friendly cruise.

The ship is quite a sight to see. It looks majestic parked among the Manhattan skyscrapers. The ship has the typical amenities plus those listed above. The Breakaway is the first "mega" ship I have cruised on. It lists as accommodating 4000 or so passengers and I believe that. Bad weather/rough seas forced the outside decks to close and the inside areas really felt packed.

The activities/shows were mostly good. Jungle fantasy was a very entertaining with a true "Cirque" show with acrobats and illusions. My daughter loved it and the food was well above average. Burn the floor consisted of professional dance routines, not my thing but I can certainly appreciate raw talent, this troop was good. Rock of Ages was pretty good, love the music/genre. Thankfully my kids fell asleep before the raunchy parts (this show is NOT for little ones). Second city comedy show was fun. The variety show towards the end of the cruise was horrendous though, I mean laughably bad. The outdoor activities were great. Wall climb, ropes course etc.. For some reason though, these activities have very limited hours of operation and are closed often due to weather. When there were indoor activities most were held in the atrium which at best has 100 seats. Watching grown men and women fight for seats is always fun but gets old after awhile.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BD

We had 2 adjoining balcony cabins on deck 13/forward. Cabin size was as expected and nicely appointed. Space was efficiently utilized, storage was not a problem for us as we had 2 cabins with two people in each cabin. Bathroom was very nice and seemed bigger than other ship bathrooms I had been on. TV provides ship info, few program channels, major news networks, and allows access to your on board acct. Some activities can be booked thru the TV which was a nice time saver. Room Steward did an admirable job. We were definitely let into the room before it was "ready". Had no other issues after that. Kids got a kick out of the towel animals. Guess they don't leave mints on your pillow at night anymore...
