Gangway off the ship in Willemstad, NL

We had a marvelous experience aboard our first ever river cruise. The AMAWaterways AMAPrima is a comfortable, well-appointed ship with a friendly, welcoming, and helpful staff. We could not tell when the ship was under way except by looking outside as the scenery and other ships slipped by.

On embarkation day, we rode the tram from Centraal Station to route 26 PTA (first stop) but had to walk back across the bridge towards the Centraal Station. We could have just walked the same 10 minutes east from the Centraal Station river side lower level along the sidewalk.

The embarkation on the AMAPrima was wonderful. We were greeted by the ship's Captain, Ron Schuegard and the Cruise Manager, Uwe Nitschke. A staff member took our bags and carried them down to our room 107 on the Piano Deck. The ship's elevator does not carry cruise passengers down to the Piano Deck and traversing the narrow spiral staircase down to that level with baggage would have been very treacherous.

Cabin Review

Outside stateroom with fixed window

Cabin D

The Cabin had a queen size bed with down comforter and four pillows. Two blankets were in the closet. Room under the bed for our luggage. The room windows were just above water level. It was quiet and a comfortable place to rest. The desk had just enough room for the headset chargers, table lamp, and keyboard for the integrated TV and computer flat-screen. TV reception was at times intermittent mostly during docking or turning. The safe above the desk was big enough to hold a tablet notebook with room for camera, jewelry, passports, a small purse, etc. The bathroom was a bit cramped with a triangular shaped shower stall but roomy enough for my 73 inch height and 38 inch waist. Water did tend to wet the floor after showering. Tip - don't use the overhead rain shower head. The toilet flush button was hard to operate at times needing a firm push. The power outlet behind the mirror was awkward to use with the supplied hairdryer inside the bathroom.
