We are a still-working, active, couple in our very early 50s which meant that we did not fit in with the average passenger. Most of the people on this cruise were in their 70s or more and I saw more walkers and scooters than I've ever seen before. The Equinox is a beautiful ship but in the process of catering to this much older crowd tends to alienate younger people.
We have been on many cruises, starting with Carnival and Royal Caribbean and most recently with Princess; which we loved so we had high hopes for Celebrity. We definitely preferred the amenities and atmosphere on Princess to the family/fun atmosphere on Carnival, but we may not quite be ready for the extremely slow pace on Celebrity.
Embarkation was flawless. We arrived a little earlier than we planned (no traffic) but boarding had already started so we just checked in and walked on board with very short lines. Rooms were not yet ready so we had a quick lunch and explored the ship. The decor is very understated, wood and chrome with (mostly) tasteful artwork. Everything is clean and in good repair. Every crew member you meet says a friendly hello. So we were off to a good start.
The cabin was great. Plenty of space and a large veranda which was partially obstructed but that was not a big deal. There was a large lifeboat directly in front of our balcony so we couldn't look down to the water, but the view was fine. Many people in higher cabins were also complaining that the lifeboats blocked their view so we were happy to have gotten a great deal. There are just 6 small-medium drawers so plan on storing things in the over-bed cupboard or closet. The bathroom was great, lots of storage that mostly went unused, a real glass enclosed shower and the nightlight.
