We have cruised on Holland America (not happy with them), Royal Caribbean (good, except for embarkation and debarkation nightmares in Port Everglades, Fl.), Carnival (good value), Disney (excellent, but too expensive), Celebrity (good cultural programs etc., but not worth the money), Cunard (very good cultural programs, etc.), Princess (very good cultural programs and food, but need to improve the shore excursions and the tiny balcony cabins on many ships).
This was our 1st NCL cruise and we gave it 5 stars, not because it was perfect, but because it was one of our very best, and a great value. We loved the buffet food as well as the dining room food. Of course, the service everywhere was lovely, as well as the decor. I think the ship was recently renovated. Most impressive of all: all the shore excursions were PERFECT. The tour guides and companies are caring, informative and efficient. Only one small van was uncomfortable and had poor AC, but I am pretty picky about that. The guide and tour were wonderful. Maybe NCL contracts with better companies than the other cruise lines? This is my major complaint on our other cruises. Usually, unless we book a semi-private tour, there is not even a 50/50 chance of having a good one.
The fitness room is also large and well-equipped. Entertainment was excellent.
Balcony middle/aft. Very well-placed. bathroom good.
