Introduction:

My wife and I are writing this review from our balcony as we steam north back to San Pedro on board the Mariner of the Seas. We booked this cruise as a Sweet Sixteen present for our daughter. She took her best friend with her as part of the gift.

When we booked we knew it would be a "compromise" vacation as my wife had limited vacation time and our daughter did not wish to be pulled from school or miss any assignments. As such, a Mexican Riviera cruise seemed a good option as it was an easy drive from our home in Phoenix and offered decent prices for a Voyager class ship.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E1

We had an aft Cabin 9390 which is a corner aft on Deck 9. We love deck 9 since it is close to the upper deck facilities and has a deck of cabins above to shield from noise. Our cabin featured a large triangle shaped balcony and a giant porthole big window that could be sat in! The balcony had 2 loungers and a table/chair combo. It was a great size and was sheltered from the wind. This was a bonus since the wind on deck was over 40mph on the last sea day. The balcony is partially covered so if you like to tan, it gets some great sun. However, people eating in the windjammer can look down and see you. So ladies, tan with your top on if you have 9390.

Other than the funky window and balcony, the cabin is a standard E1 with lots of storage and a very functional shower. All cruise ships should have the half moon shower doors. Ten times better than a curtain! Our safe was a little temperamental so we have to have maintenance come and reset it once but that was the only concern. The other thing we noticed was that there was a small amount of soot on the balcony a couple of days. Not a huge deal but other reviews have mentioned it and it does sometimes happen.
