River cruise after Altun Ha visit - local digs

This was my first Princess cruise. Compared to my other cruises all on Carnival I rated this one average. I was surprised at how much ship movement I could feel, bouncing from wall to wall on occasion. The staff was overall very helpful and pleasant. It was disappointing that the public area bathrooms often did not work (only 1 stall for women outside of the theater-really?) The food was ok, I ate special meals (vegan) by request but even the regular meals that travel mates had were just ok. The entertainment, while good, was not as spectacular as I had hoped. There was really just one show available at different times of night vs. a main show & comedy clubs in different parts of the ship at the same time.

Embarkation was a breeze-well done, Disembarkation took a little longer but still well done. We visited Tulum (at the Cozumel stop), Roatan & Belize. This was my 2nd Tulum visit and maybe because the ship was running late & we didn't have any time left to see Cozumel but it just was not much fun. It has become way too commercialized (a Starbucks?) and the walk from the bus to the ruins was further than advertised. Won't do it again. Did Mahogony Bay snorkel/clamshell in Roatan - definitely would do again. The beach is quite busy but the water was very nice & service was good. Get there early for a good clamshell. (which I recommend)

The Altun Ha ruins/river tour in Belize was quite nice-they even managed a visit by the Taiwanese President! (actually he just happened to be there that same day). The ruins are very nice-you can climb to the top. The boat ride was a bit long for me but was interesting w/ monkeys, crocodile, bats & iguanas. We also had time to kill in Houston on our way back & opted for a bus tour of the city & drop off at airport rather than the standard shuttle ($50/pp extra) and it was well worth the money. Makes us want to come back to Houston just to visit.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin B4

The was an aft balcony cabin. I can't recommend aft balcony cabins enough! Fantastic views & very private. (you can peak to the one adjoining balcony). Guess it depends on your neighbors & ours were never there. It expands the room. Also, room service for breakfast on the balcony is fantastic! The room steward (Rodrigo) was excellent-even brought my kleenex when I caught a cold. Very helpful & friendly. All the safes are quite small but could handle a camera & personal docs & Ipad mini (sorry, no laptop room)

Port Reviews

Cozumel

Too commercial. Very hot. Long walk to ruins & beach wasn't really relax-able. Won't do again.

Houston

Very nice overview. Good if you have time to kill before you leave!

Roatan

Nice water, busy beach, nice shopping. Worth it.

Belize City

Able to climb the ruins. Great photo ops. River trip was a bit long but overall worth the $.
