I have to admit after reading all the negative reviews I thought twice about booking on the Sunshine. I'm glad I ignored them. You get out of a cruise what you make of it. The new décor with the refurbishing was much more appealing than the old Vegas style décor. The food areas looked much more modern than on other ships. I also loved that the main dining room did not seat you with other people you did not know, as they do on some other ships. All tables were individualized so that just your party was together.

I read several complaints that the ship was hard to navigate around. I am assuming these were first time cruisers, as this ship had a very similar layout to the other 3 cruises I have taken with Carnival and actually found it quite easy to navigate. All carnival ships have floors that do not directly lead from one end of the ship to the other. For those people who have never taken a cruise, it may seem confusing.

The adult only area is beautiful and comfortable. The main pool area is too small and it is very difficult to find on chair on sea days, but the sports complex and water park make up for that. My 8 year old son was NEVER bored and constantly wanted to be in the sports area. The only complaint I had was that the older kids manipulate the basketball court and rarely let the little kids get in on an "organized game". In order for the smaller kids to play basketball you have to go at odd times when the teenagers are doing something else. The ropes course was fun. However, even though there is a height requirement it is very difficult for younger children to reach the "support" rope that assists them across the obstacles.

The rooms are small, but average. I don't go on a cruise to be in my room so this isn't a problem. My only complaint about the room was the beds were extremely uncomfortable. It was like sleeping on a brick and the bathrooms are way to small. It is very difficult to move around.

Port Reviews

Nassau

This excursion is like Amazing Race meets Survivor. You divide into three teams and compete in several different games to see which team is the ultimate challenge winner.

Half Moon Cay

Very clean, beautiful blue water. Very relaxing.

Freeport

Very easy to take a taxi to the beach instead of paying outrageous amounts of money for a shore excursion.

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Very easy embarkation and debarkation. Quickest I have ever completed.
