Booked our trip to begin three days before boarding ship, wanted enough time to get over jet lag. Our trip was to be done in three legs as we started in Az. a long way from Genoa, our final destination to board ship. Arriving early was a great thought as we had plenty of time to rest up and get our first taste of Italian cuisine and hospitality.
Embarkation was probably our worst time as it took about an hour after check in to make it to our room, but compared to the last cruise line we sailed, three hours shorter time frame so we were still thrilled.
We were shown to our cabin, amazed at the spacious décor and the great balcony, we were greeted by a lovely bowl of fruit, a very roomy walk in closet, and a spotless, modern bathroom. We boarded around noon and after unpacking, and settling in ,we toured the ship until dinner time, getting our bearings, and discovering all this beautiful ship had to offer which was beyond my imagination, truly a floating city.
All our excursions were booked ahead of time as we wanted to make sure we were able to be on the ones we were interested in taking. The only one we were not able to take was Crete, the wind was blowing so hard the Captain couldn't dock, it was disappointing but was glad he choose to put our safety first. The rest were amazing, Olympia, Athens, Rhodes, Jerusalem, and Rome all well worth the money spent, the feelings of walking where the mighty and the truly great, had walked before, can not be put into words.
The dining on board, was truly fantastic, five and six course meals, served by a great server, named Anna, from Italy who spoke English amazingly well, had a great memory for what we liked and, helped us step out of our comfort zone to try dishes that proved to be delicious.
Can not rate this cruise any higher, all went above and beyond, to make our trip one to remember for a life time, or until our next cruise on MSC as it will be the only cruise line we will be taking. Already planning our next trip!!!!
