Traveled with children

My wife and 2 kids recently went to Disney World (5 days) and then did 4 days on the Disney Dream. The wife and I have cruised previously on the Golden Princess (Mediterranean) and the Celebrity Equinox (Caribbean). We have heard from so many people (even those without kids) how awesome a Disney cruise was. So, we set it all in motion to travel to Florida (we live in CO) and do a 10 day trip with the kids.

The park was great and tiring. Kids loved it.

We arrived at the ship around noon. Embarking went well. Pretty quick. No problems with luggage or the kids. We got on the ship and the kids were in heaven. We went to the buffet for lunch. Had some shrimp, pizza, sandwiches, etc. So far so good. We carried on our bathing suits so we could go to the pool first. After lunch, around 2:00 ish, the pools were jam packed, wall to wall kids. Our kids are 5 / 8 and know how to swim so the kiddy splash pool was out. We decided to hit the big slide. Even I was looking forward to this. It was ok. Not fast at all and the water was pretty cold (March 1). Ok. So we tried the larger kid pool. Wall to wall. I was in there with my 5 year old and I was afraid all the people might accidentally drown her. And, together with all the screaming who would know. And, I am NOT the helicopter parent, that is m wife. I literally decided after being kicked in the privates twice to face the wall to avoid that. Ok. 5 minutes and I decided the pool was out. We never went back in the rest of the days because 1) it was closed 2-3 times because someone had defalcated in there or 2) it was ALWAYS too crowded. And, since the kids cant't go in the adult pools, we did not really have much of a pool experience the entire trip.
