We normally like to spend the night before the cruise in the port city. After review we decided to stay in New Orleans at Drury Inn (820 Poydras Street). We had stayed at this hotel before. They have a NOLA cruise special where you can leave your car there during the cruise for free. They also have free drinks from 5:30-7:00 pm, free breakfast and free wireless. They are about a 10 min walk to the French quarter and 30 min walk to the ship terminal. On Saturday (3-7-09) we drove down from NE Texas to New Orleans and checked into the hotel. Our room (#114) was very nice and clean. This is a very nice hotel and a good choice of places to stay. The NOLA cruise special was $99.99. After taxes our total bill came to $113.99. Parking at the cruise terminal for the week was posted as $98.00.

EMBARKATION

On Sunday morning we walked over to Jackson Square and the riverwalk. We also walked to the Riverwalk Mall and down to the Cruise terminal area. They have a locked gate between the mall and the cruise terminal area that is opened when the boat in docked. At about 11:00 am we noted that the traffic had cleared out of the terminal area and the people at the terminal building advised that we could check in. We walked back to the hotel and got the car. Drove down to the terminal building and up to the curbside baggage checkin. The porter took our bags except for a carryon that my wife kept. She waited on one of the benches for me to drive the car back to the hotel (free parking) and walk back to the terminal. It took about 30 min and was a easy walk. We went into the terminal building to short lines for security screening and checkin. It took about 30 min to get through screening and checkin. After about another 30 min wait it was to the boat. Not a bad process at all.

Cabin Review

Cabin IA

We were in room 10065 which was clean and nice. The inside room was not large but seemed about the same size and those on Carnival. Room size is not a big concern to us because the only time we spend in the room is to get cleaned up, prepare for meals and sleep. The bathroom was big enough and had a glass shower door instead of curtain. There was plenty of closet space and 4 dresser drawers. The safe allowed you to set your own 4 digit code. There were about 5 one foot square cubby holes in the closet.

The room and hallway were quite. The location was good because it was in the middle of the theater and main areas on decks 7 & 8 and the pool / Raffels on 12.
