It makes me angry to read negative reports about Pacific Eden. My husband and I are seasoned cruisers, having been on various ships around the world over the years....and we thought Pacific Eden was a 'gem'.
We wanted to introduce some friends to the joys of cruising and opted to take a 3-day comedy getaway cruise out of Melbourne last month. Our cabins were very good with plenty of storage space. The large single beds were pushed together to create a king size bed which was extremely comfortable. The only change I made was to remove the blanket from inside the doona cover as I prefer just a sheet. Everything was clean and sparkling and the cabin steward kept it that way and turned down the bed at night, replaced wet towels twice a day and added a little towel animal on the bed with the lights turned down each evening - very nice when we returned to our cabin after the show each night. We were on deck 6 with an outside window .. very nice. We adjusted the simple wall switch and quickly brought the room temperature to our liking.
The refurbishment throughout the main sections of the ship is very smart and modern, creating an up-to-the moment atmosphere, whereas the theatre retained its original ambience. The cabins have not been updated but they are just fine. You are there to sleep and get ready for what's happening outside.
Clean, tidy, well lit, very comfortable bed and pillows, crispy clean sheets, adjustable air conditioning control, spacious cupboards, relatively large well lit bathroom, excellent housekeeping, and "nothing lurking under the bed".
My only beef was a 'tired' looking non-slip rubber mat for the bath which I did not use. I will take my own little one next time. The small amount or rust by the bath tap is to be expected but overall, the bathroom was in good shape.
