We are in our mid-forties and were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary on this cruise. We celebrate every year with a cruise, and it is THE BEST! We began our vacation by traveling to Miami the day before embarkation. We stayed overnight at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Miami Brickell Downtown. We stayed there last year as well and enjoyed both stays. Their Stay and Cruise package is great if you want to leave your car in a safe/affordable parking area.
We have been fans of NCL since 2009 when we first cruised with them on the Jewel. This is our ninth cruise on NCL & our third cruise on one of their mega ships. We have enjoyed each one, but we still like the mid-size ships best since we don't partake in many of the available activities. We mostly like to go bowling, sit out on our own balcony with a good book, take long walks on deck, and enjoy good meals and excellent service all of which are available on all NCL ships & smaller ships come with smaller crowds. All of that said, the Escape is excellent as mega-ships go.
I will issue a warning for those who have seasick/motion sick problems. The motion is much more noticeable on the Escape than any ship we have sailed on, even in very calm seas. We heard many guests who made the same observation, and some staff also acknowledged it. We wore patches from day one and had no issues with motion, but it is certainly something you should know before boarding Escape.
Our cabin, 13106, category H7, forward penthouse, was can accessible cabin. It was HUGE, as was the bath which was one of the best accessible setups I have ever seen. The only downside to the cabin was the tiny, very tiny balcony. The balcony is on the port side of the ship, and there is an enormous window/porthole over the bathtub that faces the bow. There is sufficient, easy to access storage in the cabin. The only thing we did not like about our suite was that LavAzza espresso machines have been replaced by horrid, cheap little Nespresso machines that are a pain to use. Our cabin steward, Gleeson was among the best we have ever had on NCL, and our butler, Maria was fantastic! They both gladly went above and beyond the call of duty to meet our every need, and they did so with a smile and a cheerful attitude.
St. Thomas is our favorite port. It is a pretty and friendly island to tour, and the shopping is better than in most of the other ports.
This is an up and coming port for large ships that is just getting on it's feet, and they are doing a great job of keeping it more upscale than most other ports!
Dirty, high crime, tourist trap. Stay on the ship!
We love everything about Miami!
