We had booked our first cruise to visit Key West and Cozumel, departing 2-22-16. The Carnival agent we booked with informed us we could board at noon, so we made flight arrangements accordingly. At approximately 10:40 PM the night before (2-21-16), we received an email stating the Fantasy was experiencing mechanical issues and our destinations would be changed due to the ship not being able to achieve max speeds. At 10:00 AM on 2-22-16 we were notified that we would now be sailing to Freeport, Bahamas & Nassau, shorter distances for the ship. Once we arrived at the airport we were informed the ship would not arrive in Miami until after 3 PM. The ship did not end up arriving to port until 9:30 PM, so you can imagine the embarkation process! Carnival did end up shuttling guest to Bayside where they could finally get some dinner, at our own expense of course!
We were offered an option to cancel, but the notification was too late as we were traveling from Ohio. Also, we were offered a $50 credit per guest and a 25% discount on a future booking with Carnival. We tried to make the best of a bad situation, but really feel Carnival needs to step up with something more substantial in order to earn our business back.
The food in the dining room was just OK, Guy's Burgers were really good, and the burritos at the Iguana Grill were tasty. The comedy club was probably our favorite on board activity. As first time cruisers, we were overall disappointed in Fantasy. Things started off very badly and we don't really feel Carnival's response was adequate. If cruising the Fantasy in the near future, make sure the ship is up to snuff mechanically before you book!!
