A nice ship to get out of Dodge for 2 cold weeks in WashDC. We were in a 9th flr concierge class cabin w/veranda,9285, about 8 cabins from the rear but comfortable and no discernible roll on 1-2 rough nites, with a classic beverage package, onboard credits, & -3 percs-on a 14-day southern carib cruise,7 islands almost consecutively, 5 total sea days. including an overnite stay in Curacao. Tours: We took a 5 hour ship tour on St Lucia to Soufriere, $49pp,which was less ambitious than a private tour that included lunch but, overall, was more logisticlly practical,to a small but pleasant mineral spring, a 1 1/2 hr drive each way with about an hour at the spa, and nice views of the Pitons/mountains. Otherwise, independently and far lesser expensive than the ship tours, we spent our time on nearby island beaches, taking local taxis for $20 or less RT and about $15 for chair and umbrella rental, some of which included a welcome drink. Internet:Why is it that internet is free and fast at Motel 6 and you are overcharged grossly and the net is exceedingly slow on Celebrity? Food: Compared to our 2015 carib cruise on the Equinox, the food was superior with a few exceptions; steak diane would not be recognized by diane and most fish dishes left much to be desired, dense fish with no detectable flavor. The fish in the buffet being carved from a whole fish was excellent. The croissants and pastries at breakfast were just ok-much better and delectable on holland america. Specialty Restaurants: Murano was an execllent value;food InTuscany Grill was excellent BUT service inTuscany Grill after the mains was non-existent and we had to summon the maitre d and get another waiter to clear the dishes that were sitting for 20 minutes while our waiter hovered over everyone around us and ignored us. Quisine lacked a WOW factor if,like us,youhave the diversity of world dishes and at very inexpensive prices in Washington,D.C. Also odd--the shtick is to select your choices by a computer but the waiter writes them down. Classic Beverage Package: Bear in mind the pastry at the Bacio coffee cafe is free regardless of whether you have coffee and frequently the desserts are better than or as good as the main DR. Always nice to have cappuchino or a latte on demand. Substantive Lectures: not much there. activities amost exclusivery aimed at the mindless as if much of the passengers were unsophisticated--.pool bingo, toss the can, and etremely loud dj music that could be heard on another continent. Glass Blowing items: On Equinox last year, made items were given away on each event to attendees-here, they were auctioned off on one night. Entertainment: The illusionist and the opening major show and the end show was very good; Jordan Barrett, who supposedly appeared in the past in Phantom sang again, as on Equinox withan unchanged act and left something to be desired. A violinist withmodern to rock was ok. Others could be avoided altogrther and not miss anything. Holland America does it much better with elaborate sets and costumes. Untypical for Celeb. Identico in the Lounge: 50s music for 50s people at a very slow drowzypace. the jazz lounge acts on Equinox last year were far superior and enjoyable. Solitaire, the grand foyer act , rock, blues+ was very good as was its predecessor and the House Band was very good.
