I would like to say up front that my vacation in South America overall was excellent, however that was hardly in part to Celebrity Infinity itself.
I should have known things would be poorly planned and executed when I got bad information from Celebrity reps at the hotel (the Sheraton convention center in Buenos Aires) prior to departure. I went to ask the two women at the table about shuttle transfers from the hotel to the pier and was told that it was something you had to book online ahead of the trip, and if they had room later, we could buy a transfer. Someone else in my group (I was with a group of 60+ people) asked them shortly after I did about the transfers, and the woman was able to give her a shuttle ticket right then and there. Furthermore, they were next to another cruise line desk, and that desk and pictures and information about the excursions, as well as safety tips. Celebrity had nothing but a couple of forms.
When we got to the ship, there was a steep ramp that went up probably the equivalent of 3 flights, that most passengers could not climb to get on board. I saw many elderly and able bodied people struggling to climb the ramp. There was a shorter ramp a bit down on the ship, but at no point did any celebrity employee offer it to those who had trouble climbing the steep ramp.
Going to Christ the Redeemer and sugarloaf mountain were amazing, but our excursion went 2 hours over, and we left at 7:30, arrived back at the ship around 4, and were not fed lunch (there are two excursions that go to both stops, one is 6 hours and no lunch, and one is 8 hours with lunch - we took the 6 hour tour).

For $600 the ship should feed you, give you a seat in a/c, and provide more than just a flimsy pillow and a few mardi gras beads. Our guide was great, the Samba parade was unforgettable, but I would never have booked this through Celebrity if I'd known you could go through independent means for much much cheaper.
The city tour was great, but since we left on a Sunday, most if not all shops were closed. The trip out to the ranch was amazing as was the food!
We caught a cab in Santos, and went into the city. You can take a trolley tour for about $1 USD and it shows you anything important. Get coffee at the coffee museum, and buy merch at the Pele museum.
We went on a tour with Mario Rivero's tour group S+G for $15/person for a 2 hour tour. I met the tour guide outside the leather shop in the middle of downtown. I highly recommend them! The tour was interesting, she answered a ton of my questions very well, and it's way better than what the ship offers. You can email them at rcturismo@adinet.com.uy
