First let me say, this was not our first cruise. My wife and I have been cruising since moving to Florida in 1982. We have sailed from Tampa, Miami, Port Canaveral, and West Palm Beach, but we prefer Tampa because the terminal is only a half hour from our home.
Of the 18 plus cruises we have been on, we took this exact same cruise ( Norwegian Star from Tampa for 7 days to the Western Carribbean) just 3 months before our latest cruise.
Our thoughts were, overall, for the money, it was an OK cruise and one we would do again. So, when getting together with my brother and his wife, they asked if we knew of any last minute cruises, we found this latest one sailing on the last day of January and quickly booked it for four people.
Average.
The port of Roatan is very small but the people are wonderful. Did the zip line thing and it was a blast.....had to lie about my age and weight but all's well that ends well.
You have to take a tender from the ship to get to shore. Not much to do their but shop if you are not on an excursion. The day we went it was about a half ship in very choppy waters.
The people of Belize are beautiful and not pushy at all.
If you do not take an excursion, and just want to walk around the village, get ready for some high pressure tactics from the local merchants.
We rented a golf cart and drove around the island and had a good time. ( By the way, it is a lot cheaper doing it this way, then paying a per person charge from NCL)
We live here. Great city. Lots to do, see, and some really fine dining and shopping.
