The Adventure is a good ship with especially attractive and functional public spaces. It rarely feels crowded even with over 3000 passengers on the ship. Royal Caribbean runs this hotel at sea in a very professional way -- but as with any mid-market provider in the leisure business, there are areas of improvement needed. Attention to detail matters for every property you manage, whether you are in the hotel, restaurant or cruise business -- and it's not always there.

I've addressed the cabin separately, but we did find that the food was inconsistent compared to our last RC cruise a few years back (and compared to recent Princess and Celebrity cruises). Some of our dinner entrees were very good, some were just awful. Giovanni's was very good (and the ship could use more specialty dining), the buffet was good but lacked variety day-to-day especially at breakfast.

I don't have an objection to ships trying to drive extra revenue wherever possible -- the shops, the excursions, and so forth are where they make their profit. I do expect the internet to work better (for the money spent), and I do find it surprising to get a letter sent to my cabin thanking me for booking my "next cruise." (We didn't.) And I wish the RC staff had been friendlier and more helpful trying to resolve these issues.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E2

Smaller than the comparable Princess cabin from our last cruise, but functional once we figured out how to use all of the storage to its best advantage. We found the bed comfortable (we like a firm bed) and the bathroom was kept clean by our friendly cabin attendant.

I do need to point out that when we first arrived, we found dirty hand towels under the bed, used dental floss in the bathroom (in a cabinet where the glass shelves needed to be cleaned) and were very disappointed by this. Our attendant (who had been on vacation) took care of this.

The balcony (which of course costs extra) was not totally useful because of paint chips on the floor and chair. We were also disappointed that the loveseat and curtains looked like original equipment from 2001 -- we know the Adventure is headed for drydock this fall and we hope it gets more than a cosmetic facelift in its public spaces.
