I just love Holland America and would suggest spending the extra $$ to get a balcony suite, preferably a Neptune Suite. Our room and balcony was enormous and we had private "membership" to the Neptune Lounge, which is like having the front office, explorations lounge and lido all in one spot. Cappucino, breakfast, all day snacks, comfortable TV viewing area, computer, nice spot to meet people. All our needs were met and then some.
The food was excellent from the Lido to the Vista dining room and the upcharges, Pinnacle Grille and Canaletto were superb. The Pinnacle Grille is well over a $100 meal for $29 upcharge. 5-star service and food. The staff is friendly and happy, they are enjoying what they are doing.
Our cruise to Aruba, Panama (with canal) Costa Rica and Grand Cayman was relaxing (every other day a sea day) and interesting, particularly the panama canal. Slideshows and documentaries presented prior to going through the canal were interesting and informative. Must admit that I was not impressed with portside at many of our stops, but the "port" is usually not in the best part of town - these locations would be better if you booked an excursion. Lots of things to do on the boat, loved the $25,000 jackpot bingo!! Too bad I didn't win :).
