I had heard so many negative reviews about this ship that I was almost regretting having booked it! We cruised about 10 years ago on Royal Caribbean. But my fears were unfounded!! We had a great time on this ship. We flew into Miami and caught the Norwegian bus to the port. Embarkation was very easy. The only thing was when we boarded the ship they directed us to Captain Cooks lounge area but I don't know why. We went straight up to the pool area and decided to eat lunch. We sat outside in the garden cafe. Food was okay that day but it was a mad house.
I agree that it seems the layout is not very good. But it's not enough to not go on the ship. We ate at the buffet quite a few times. It was always good. Some things better than others but it is a matter of taste. We are not picky eaters. Breakfast was always very good. Lunches the same. We ate dinner at the Crossings twice - first time had Lasagne which was so so - kind of dry. Second night I had Garlic Shrimp and it was excellent! Ate the Palace one night - had some kind of steak that was very good also. Did not eat in any of the premium restaurants. We had wine a couple of nights. I thought they were fine. We had the white wines. Again, I am not a wine snob so I thought they were fine. Desserts were good but they were much better on Royal Caribbean. We really enjoyed the unlimited bar package. My husband drinks margaritas and they were all good-but we always asked that they use Jose Cuervo when they made them otherwise they used a cheap brand. I had margaritas, bloody marys, pina coladas, mudslides and my very favorite was a Miami Vice.
Some of the drinks were better than others depending on where you got it. I think that the bars on the inside made the drinks a little better than the bar by the pool. We usually waited a few minutes to get drinks but it was not a big deal. There weren't any sloppy drunks that I saw but everyone was having a good time. The first night the party by the pool as we started sailing was a blast. The crew was very energetic and got the crowd excited.
