I was travelling with my husband and our teenage son.
I was very put off by the security drill at the beginning. After waiting in long lines to check in and board the ship, we had to stand for a long time packed closely together for the safety instructions. Then we had to go to the emergency station and simply stand there, packed tightly against one another for about 20 minutes. It was a complete waste of time. On a previous cruise (different cruise line), we simply did everything at the emergency station and then we left. I thought this was a Carnival thing, but on one of the excursions I met someone from another Carnival cruise who didn't experience this.
Overall the staff and services were great. There were very long wait times for the dining rooms, especially on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The wait times provided by the staff were completely inaccurate.
Our cabin was a bit disappointing. I chose the option where you let Carnival select the room layout, and I wouldn't do that again. Our son's bed was raised and pulled out of the wall. (The cabin crew opened and secured it, and it stayed open throughout the cruise.) It was not possible to walk around to the far side while upright. You had to contort yourself. I wouldn't do that again.
Loved Charleston. What a beautiful city! We spent several days there before our cruise. We really enjoyed visiting the Yorktown carrier, walking around the beautiful historic downtown, Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Reform synagogue, and Fort Sumter.
We also enjoyed the great dining and music scene!
