On 1/1/2016 I noticed a fantastic price for the NCL Breakaway 14 day cruise to the Southern Caribbean leaving on 1/3/2016. I booked the Studio cabin since I was traveling solo. This was my 20th cruise, 17th on NCL and 6th on the Breakaway. This was my 3rd trip traveling solo. Getting on the ship was a breeze (I am platinum level). I was allowed to drop off my carry on luggage in the cabin as soon as I boarded. The ports of call included San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Tortola, Antigua, Barbados, Dominica and Martinique. Weather was great (except for last sea day coming back).

The ship was very clean and never felt over crowded. I dined in the Manhattan Room, Savor, Taste, Cagney's, Moderno, O'Sheehans and the Garden Café. All meals were excellent. Service was fine in all restaurants. Since I booked at the last minute, I was not able to get any of the free packages but I did spend a good amount of time in the many bars available on the ship. I enjoyed going to the different tastings on the sea days (martini, margarita and beer). A good value for the $15.00. Traveling as a solo I went to the solo travelers get together each night in the Studio lounge. We had a large number of solo travelers attending. Antuan from the Cruise Director staff coordinate us. He arranged for group dinners and show reservations. We had a great time.

I love NCL even with some of the nickel and dime changes such as $7.95 room service charge and the upcoming ala carte pricing in specialty restaurants. I will definitely travel on NCL again (going to Bermuda again in July).

Cabin Review

Studio Stateroom

Cabin T1

The Studio is small but very well organized. It has ample space for a single traveler. My only regret is that it does not have a small refrigerator. The Studio cabins give you access to the Studio Lounge which has a coffee/espresso machine, juice, water available 24/7. In the morning there are pastries and muffins and cookies are available the rest of the day. It is a great place to mingle with the other solo travelers.

Port Reviews

Tortola

I've done this before. It is a fun tour of the island with complimentary rum punch on board. Stops include a BBQ lunch and time at a small beach. Great time.

San Juan

Enjoyed walking thru old San Juan and visiting the forts and Senor Frogs.

St. Thomas

Been here many times. Walked around the port and of course, stopped in at Senor Frogs.

St. Maarten

Walked over to Phillipsburg. Walked along the beach and had a great time in some of the pubs there.

Dominica

Tour took us to Champagne reef where we were guided thru the reef. Guide was excellent and had a great time.

Barbados

Magnificent tour of the caves.

Antigua

Enjoyed walking around St. Johns.

Martinique

Wonderful tour. Beautiful gardens.
