Port Reviews

Belize City

A nice and not too intensive of a journey to Mayan ruins near Belize City, as well as a bus tour of the City. Some walking... Climbing the ruins optional (but strenuous)!

Roatan

Mahogany Bay and Beach - Immaculate tourist shopping and resort experience - albeit totally created for the cruise ships. No hawking - upscale shopping and some beach recreation amenities available. Downside - could be anywhere!

Cozumel

Very touristy port town. Shopping - Lots of hawking... Need to bargain for everything.

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

Noon arrival by tender. Been before, so we opted for a relaxing lunch at the Lobster Pot ($$). Then an afternoon with local friends. Otherwise, stingray city is interesting, but it was a bit cloudy and cool the day we were there. Would have opted for a land tour and shopping otherwise.

Costa Maya

Totally created for cruise ship passengers. The same duty-free shops as elsewhere. Not too interesting.

Key West

Somewhat interesting historically and culturally off-beat! (Channel Jimmy Buffet and 'cheeseburgers in paradise'!). However, had been before so we opted for long walk down Duval Street and a nice relaxing lunch at La Te Da porch verandah.

Miami

There's something for everyone in Miami.... Our choice post-cruise was to enjoy a typical Cuban-style lunch at Versailles restaurant in 'Little Havana' with local friends before returning to Miami airport for our flight home.
