We boarded on our 50 wedding anniversary in Barcelona. The crew was always a big help, even though we presented some special challenges when my wife was injured ashore in one of the ports. The stateroom was more than adequate and everything worked very well. The ship's design and features suited us very well. The activities on-board were enjoyable. The service in all the restaurants and the cafe was usually superb, always good. The cabin steward was also very helpful and always very friendly and willing to adjust his schedule to accommodate our desires. The included shore excursions were not always rated accurately as far as difficulty. Some guides on shore excursions were not very helpful, especially in Venice. Our travel to Barcelona was delayed 5 hours by an aircraft problem, but Viking representatives were at the airport ready to take us to our pre-cruise hotel. The hotel in Barcelona was well located, but undergoing renovation. The room was tiny, even smaller than the ship's cabin! The dining on-board was always very enjoyable for lunch and dinner. Breakfast in The Restaurant was not nearly as good as in the Cafe. Disembarkation in Venice was not handled as well as it could have been. It was a long walk from the ship pulling suitcases to a bus parked some distance away. There was no help with luggage. Overall, our trip was very enjoyable and Viking did a great job. Some crew members went way above the call of duty to help us.
