Crown Princess Cruise Review by Stevena54
- Sail Date: January 2016
- Destination: Mexican Riviera
- Cabin Type: Balcony
We booked a balcony on deck 14; the room was comfortable and had great storage including a small fridge. Only drawback was the lack of electrical plugs, only 2 in the cabin and 1 in the bathroom, the 2 in cabin were useless as you were only able to use one of the two at any time due to how close the plugs were together.
The ship itself was in great condition, plenty of elevators and layout was ok. The food on board was hit and miss. We ate at the Crown Grill and the Salty Dog, both were excellent including menu selections and staff. The International Cafe was awesome with fresh salads and goodies everyday. Get a coffee card, it was a good deal for us, we were able to get 15 speciality coffees for 35.00.
Now for the disappointment, we opted for anytime dining and it sucked. The first three nights we were forced to wait between an hour and 90 minutes before being seated due to the high number of "older" folks who lined up at 4:30 pm for dinner every night! It seemed that over 70% of the passengers were 75 years old or older and they swarmed the dining areas tiring them up until 8 pm! When we did get to eat in the dining rooms, the menus were less than thrilling for a 10 day cruise. Lots of meatloaf, turkey, roast and white fish dishes. The desserts were good but that was it.
Back to the "older" folks on this cruise, we found that trying to get to the first seating for the nightly show was impossible due to the oldies swamping the theater an hour before showtime and saving seats so that when you arrived 30 minutes before the show time you were turned away because the theater was full! Even the behavior of the oldies was unacceptable, many of them were rude, crusty and acted entitled to being nasty to others. We witnessed numerous instances where people refused to move over one seat so a couple could sit together as well as obnoxious individuals in the casino.
The ports were wonderful and the ships crew amazing.
Overall, we will not be sailing with Princess again due to the way they mishandled the anytime dining issues and the oldies on board.
