  3. Celebrity Eclipse
Having cruised on Eclipse in September 2014 to the Canaries we decided to try a Christmas cruise to the Caribbean to celebrate my husbands 65th birthday. I also added on 3 days in Miami prior to the cruise and 3 days after which was fabulous. We were only kept waiting at the cruise terminal for about 35 minutes before being checked in and allowed to board the ship. There were plenty of staff on hand to guide people to the appropriate areas and once onboard most folks headed for lunch in the Ocean View Cafe. We were given a glass of sparkling wine on arrival and welcomed aboard. The one thing I like about Celebrity is that they are scrupulous about hand cleansing and this avoids tummy upsets etc., which some ships seem to suffer from. Plenty of food and variety on offer in the cafe and after a stroll on deck 16 we went to our cabin on deck 9 and our cases were already there, so I unpacked. Once that was done we again visited deck 16 and watched the ship slide slowly away from port as the scenery of Miami started to puts its lights on - what a view! After that it was back to the cabin for an evening G&T before a shower and get ready for evening dinner. At dinner we opted for an 8.30pm mealtime in Monnlight Sonata and shared a table with 4 other guests, a couple from USA and a couple from Canada. This proved to be an excellent mix and we enjoyed all of the time we spent in their company. Food wise we could not fault any meal we had here and if you wanted more than one of anything the waiters were only too happy to oblige. I do find the alcohol prices onboard rather expensive, but we chose not to have a drinks package as we do like our afternoon G&T's and these would not be included in a package. The itinerary was excellent and first stop we visited Labadee, Haiti where lunch was provided ashore and we took a boat cruise which was excellent. After drinks onboard the boat moored at a beach and we were given floats and encouraged to swim in the beautiful warm waters. Drinks (cans) were then thrown out to everyone who required them and we sat and chatted to all sorts of people whilst floating in the sea. After a day at sea we then visited Aruba which looked to be a lovely island. Unfortunately my husband had severe toothache and after speaking with Guest Relations we arranged a visit to a dental clinic where he had the tooth extracted. So we never got to see the island really. Next island was Curacao which was absolutely lovely. After a quick visit as we didn't book an excursion with hubby not feeling too chipper we stayed onboard and enjoyed a quiet ship for lunch. 4th stop was Bonaire which again was a beautiful island with an immensely natural deep harbour. We chose to do a glass bottomed boat trip which was very informative about how the islands coral and environment was cared for and preserved. Our guide was born on the island and provided an excellent commentary all of the 1 1/2 hour cruise. There were then 2 sea days before we returned to Miami. Sea days were always spent lying in the hot sun on the 16th deck where plenty of sun loungers etc., were always available, interspersed with a dip in the pool and lunch and drinks again. We enjoyed this cruise immensely and Celebrity lived up to our expectations apart from 2 things. We loved to get showered and dressed up for the evening meal and actually love the formal nights as well. Now Celebrity have changed to Evening Chic we thought that the standard of dress fell considerately and other nights we did have some teenagers in shorts and caps. On speaking with the waiter and Maitre D we were assured that everyone was checked as they entered the restaurant, however we saw differently. The other thing we thought was disappointing was the entertainment in the bars. The groups singer seemed weak of voice and the choice of music pretty poor. However, the theatre entertainment was superb with some wonderful shows and acts. All in all - would I choose Celebrity again - yes, however I am intending to research other cruise lines in the future.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Veranda
Cabin 1B 9182
Excellent choice prior to booking. Excellent service by the attendants who could not do enough for you. The only thing I noticed was that the divan trim on the bed needed pressing. Cleaning and servicing was faultless as well.
