A little bit about us. My wife and I have cruised on Disney 21 times and once on Carnival prior to this cruise. Our son has sailed 15 times on DCL and once on Carnival. Son's friend had cruised once before on Royal Caribbean. Consequently, we were always comparing things to DCL.
We went into this cruise with lower expectations. I had read many reviews here on CC and was getting a little apprehensive as our sailing date drew near. It seemed that the majority of the reviews were negative and made The Dawn sound like the S.S. Minnow.
This was also our first cruise out of New Orleans. Every other cruise has been out of Port Canaveral. Sailing out of New Orleans saved us a lot of $$ driving instead of our usual flying down night before cruise. We left Birmingham at 5:30 AM and were in the Fulton St parking deck by 10:30 AM. - $84 to park for the week.
CABINS - We had two inside rooms, 9223 and 9225. Out stateroom attendant was Roy and he did a great job throughout the week. We was very personable and friendly, the room was always clean and the ice bucket was always full. Disney has the 2 'split' bathrooms, but I liked the NCL bathroom setup better. Shower seemed to have much more space. NCL room is MUCH smaller, but layout was very efficient and had plenty of storage for 2 passengers. Anything more than 2 passengers in these cabins would have felt very cramped.
Great day at Mr Sanchos. We had the cabana package and was worth the extra $$
Stopped to see the monkeys. Island tour was a little boring
Cave Tubing and Zip Lining - one of the best excursions ever. About 1 hour ride in van each way to facility, but well worth it.
We love Tropicante and Costa Maya. Steve and his staff do a great job
