This was our first ocean cruise so we were a little concerned over the size of the ship since our previous Viking experiences were river cruises where we had come to enjoy the relationships that evolved from being part of a smaller group of travelers. While admittedly we still prefer the river excursions, our overall experience on the Viking Star was excellent. The ship is well appointed the crew superbly trained and very attentive to the needs of the passengers. Our deluxe veranda cabin was spacious and comfortable and provided the perfect place to recoupe between all the daily on-board activities and shore excursions.

Food is seemingly always a focal point for shipboard travelers and the Viking Star certainly provides an abundance of choices for even the most discerning diner. My wife and I did not take opportunity to dine at The ChefsTable, but we did enjoy Manfredis and The Restaurant. And, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, the entre choices were appealing to the eye as well as pleasant to the taste buds. It is only because the shore excursions kept us moving that I did not have to go on a serious diet when voyage was over!!

We had a great time and while the river has been more appealing to us we are strongly considering The Viking Homelands for our next trip.

Cabin Review

Cabin Deluxe Veranda DV1

Clean, comfortable and spacious. We enjoyed sipping wine on the veranda as we sailed between ports of call.
