We just returned from our 7 day Western Caribbean cruise on the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas, we were first time travelers with Royal Caribbean but have traveled with Carnival Cruise Lines previously. The following are our observations including ship service and shore excursions:

Freedom of the Seas is a very beautiful, technically astute ship. We especially enjoyed the daily activity touch screen monitors that are located on every floor. The display times and location for all current and future activities are displayed for easy viewing; you can even map any activity for ease of finding it on the ship, a really cool feature. We give the edge to Royal Caribbean for this great feature.

Housekeeping services was great but we have to give a big edge to Carnival for the following reasons and for us it significant issue :

Interior Stateroom

Cabin M

Our cabin was clean and had a view looking out onto to inside of the main area of the ship. The bathroom was nice I we were pleasantly surprised with the shower having a door instead of a shower curtain. Flat screen TV and adequate storage space was a plus.
