My husband and I went on a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas, leaving from the Port of Charleston on the Carnival Fantasy. First, lets talk about the port. We have went on cruises in the past, but Charleston's embarkation/debarkation was the easiest of any port we have used. We arrived to the port at 10:30 and dropped off our bags at the early drop off. Then came back to park at 11:00. We waited in line about 30 minutes (we were early), and then parked inside of the warehouse. It was nice to have a covered, police patrolled facility to leave our vehicle in while we were gone. We got on the shuttle and went to the cruise terminal. After getting in the terminal, we were on the ship within 25 minutes. The process was very easy! Debarkation was very smooth and we were at our car in no time. We will definitely use this port again.

Carnival Fantasy- we had an interior cabin on the Empress deck. It was the perfect location, mid ship, close to everything. We enjoyed this ship and it's amenities. Sure, the ship is older, but that didn't keep us from having any fun that we would have had on other ships. The only thing we didn't like as much, was that the Serenity (adult only area) was smaller and not as peaceful as other ships, but that isn't the ships fault, it was the other obnoxious passengers. The spa was wonderful, I will definitely go again. The food was great, there are plenty of options if you don't want what is on one of the buffets. If you have your time dining in the Celebration dining room, ask for a table around 150, or ask for Joseph- he was great!!

Freeport- While in Freeport, there isn't much to do right at port, we took a $5pp bus to Port Lucaya. There is a public beach access near the police station. When we got there, it was high tide. Locals walked along a rock wall to get to the beach, but we didn't feel comfortable doing that. We walked on rocks at the bottom, however we did get splashed- no worries though, you're at the beach to get in the ocean, right? The beach was nice, but next time we are in Freeport we will do an excursion.

Port Reviews

Charleston

Embarkation/Debarkation was wonderful at Charleston! The process was quick and smooth.

Freeport

We enjoyed the public beach by the police station at Port Lucaya.

Nassau

Junkanoo beach was great. The area when you first get to the beach was a little crowded, but if you walk down the beach a little bit, there is plenty of room. Public restrooms and shower available.
