My DW and I went on this cruise with my daughter's family and the family part was great. Always fun to love on my grandkids. This was our first Carnival cruise but we have cruised many times, mostly on Holland America [older crowd]. It was a culture shock to be on a "Party Boat." Really, how many days does one party before you slow down and become human again? Must be more than five.

For the ship itself: rooms were small but adequate, bed was OK, shower never did stay one temperature [cold to very hot and back again on about a 30 second timing], thermostat was a moveable baffle in the A/C vent [no heat, only less or more cool], ship looks to have been refurbished recently and overall was OK. Still, the Lido wasn't well laid out. Only found the lines short once [ice cream machines were working fine!!!]. Guy's Burgers were good as was the taco stand and sandwich grill. DON'T eat scrambled eggs - nasty. Lots of things for the kids, but I'm just not into the "Hairy Back Contest" type stuff. Library had about twenty old books.

Ports: Don't even get on the bus into Progresso. Stay on the ship. Went on a Sea lion excursion in Cozumel which was well worth the money [about 1/2 the cost of the Dolphin Tour at the same place and time.]

Port Reviews

Galveston

The Hilton Resort on the beach offers free parking to cruise guest. Also there's an IHOP next door as well as a Rain Forest Café. Nice place and reasonable.

Progreso

Stay on the ship! You didn't lose anything in that city so do yourself a favor, and stay on the ship.

Cozumel

Played with a Sea Lion. Worth the money just to see that animal kiss my wife! About 1/3 the cost of the Dolphin excursion booked thru Carnival.
