Sail Date: Dec 2015

We had recently sailed on AmaPrima for a 7 day Christmas cruise (Budapest to Nuremberg).

Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived at around 5:00 p.m., having walked from our rental apartment to the dock - easy manageable walk along the riverbank. There was no line up when we arrived, and in less then 2 minutes, we were in our cabin, unpacking and getting ready for 6:30 welcome briefing + dinner.

Cruise director's daily briefing + information was always delivered in an informative, pleasant manner, not too bogged down with lengthy information.

Stateroom with French balcony and outside balcony

Cabin BB

Good location, spacious and clean. Especially liked the feature where one can flick a switch and the opaque glass partition mirror can be converted into a clear window, so the overall bathroom space was expanded.

Port Reviews

Bratislava

We did a walking tour of the area, and had a wonderful afternoon exploring the old town with a narration of its history. Since we were docked until around 11 p.m., we were able to come back out after dinner, to enjoy the evening lights and Christmas market. We were also fortunate enough to see a brief 15 minute (?) fireworks display, without the crowd!

Vienna

We did a half day walking tour around the palace + gardens, had a brief intro of its history, and Empress Elizabeth (romantic). Especially enjoyed walking around the city on our free time, and of course the Christmas market in front of the town hall!! Lovely city to walk around and enjoy the beautiful buildings.

Melk

Wonderful visit in the Abbey - awesome building and views of the area. Nice down hill walk back to the ship, going through the town center. It is a very charming town, although a lot of the shops were closed in preparation for Christmas eve.

Regensburg

Nice walk around town, beautiful building structures, history etc. etc.

Nuremberg

Nice half day tour of the walled city - interesting fortress and building structures. Half day was not enough to see all the sites and attractions, but it was a nice overall introduction of the area. Glad we stayed an extra night after disembarkation, therefore we were able to visit the walled city more thoroughly.

Budapest

We arrived a couple of days earlier to explore the beautiful city of Budapest, only to find that 2 days were not enough to explore both sides!! We did a private food tour on the first day, having slept in after a long flight to Budapest, and a half day tour of the two cemeteries, before heading to the ship for embarkation. Basically that was all we were able to do on our brief stay in the city. Definitely will need to return and see the major sites. Food tour was very nice, having had a brief introduction of local foods + desserts + wine. We also went to a bar ruin, where it was converted into a farm market during the day. Food sampling was readily available, and enjoyed the truffle oils + salsas made locally. The visit to the two cemeteries was equally pleasant - solemn place with lots of history! Statues and sculptures were awesome. The experience was enhanced with the stories our guide provided during the tour, and the visit to the Jewish cemetery would not have been possible without a guide, because she had to call the gatekeeper to open the gate for us to visit.
