We are a family of 4 with 2 college-aged sons. This was our first river cruise after about a dozen ocean cruises. Our favorite ocean line is Celebrity and we agree that Ama Waterways is comparable to Celebrity in providing great service, great food, great experience.

Our small but comfortable cabins had the french balcony where you can open the sliding glass door and take pictures and feel the temperature but you don't walk out. This was ok because it was chilly outside. Each stateroom had a TV monitor with keyboard and free wi-fi so you could check email if you have to (my husband liked that).

Our captain, Jan de Brujin from the Netherlands, has been sailing for 41 years. He was very personable, we saw him often as he greeted guests as they departed for excursions. The river cruise sailing is very smooth. Captain Jan ran a great team, his crew worked well together and seemed like a family. Our favorite dining room attendant was Alina. She was always welcoming, attentive and professional about serving. Also, Robert kept our wine glasses filled at lunch and dinner which was a nice included perk. The Cruise Manager was Martinez Frederico and did an excellent job with calm, patient, and a good humored manner. Read more
