This is my sixth cruise on Royal Caribbean and my third New Years cruise. It is also the second time on this ship (previously in 2009). I am very picky and was a little worried about the condition of the ship, based on some of the most recent reviews. That said, from the moment I walked on the ship, I was pleased at the cleanliness and condition of the ship as a whole, including staterooms.

I was with a group and we had 4 deluxe balconies and 2 inside promenade rooms on Deck 8, mid-ship. All six rooms were clean and well kept. They were not worn and in my opinion the ship does not show its age as suggested by others. However, other reviews about the lackluster cruise director was very accurate. I guess I must have been spoiled on previous cruises with such great and active cruise directors.

I had a late dinner seating so I was unable to attend some of the larger shows, so I cannot comment on those. However, I did attend the Love and Marriage show and as always was entertained. It was however disappointing that they chose a different venue for the Quest game show (typically my favorite show). As a result it was standing room only and we ended up leaving. I was happy to see deck security out monitoring chairs during the day at sea. Historically, the day at sea is always stressful with folks holding chairs that they might use for a brief period. The security folks walked around and made sure this did not happen. From a food perspective it was what I typically expect, very good quality and consistency. I like the dining room experience so I cannot comment on the specialty restaurants.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E2

The cabin was the typical deluxe oceanview stateroom. It was impeccably clean and everything worked great. I was impressed with how little noise I heard from surrounding rooms and the hallway. If I had one complaint it would be how hard the beds are. That said, some folks like this so it is really a personal preference.

Port Reviews

San Juan

I am not a huge fan of San Juan, I go there simply for the cruise. This time I got to San Juan 2 days before the cruise and spent some time unwinding. I spent most of it at the hotel beach and pool.

St. Thomas

Awesome.. Catamaran ride to St. John for snorkeling and beach fun. Great crew and great time!!!

St. Croix

We decided to go to Rainbow beach... VERY rocky.. clean beach, blue water but the rocks are brutal. Next time I will find a different beach or excursion.

Antigua

After the poor beach experience in St. Croix we were given the recommendation of Dickinson Beach... However, once we got off the ship we spoke with some locals and were told Valley Church Beach was a better choice. I am so glad we listened. The beach was AWESOME, we rented chairs, umbrellas, tubs, jet-skis and had a great time. Thankfully, we got there early (9:30ish) because by 11am the place was packed. We were not hassled by anyone to buy items. In fact, the folks renting the chairs and other equipment were courteous and very attentive. This was an island I had low expectations (after having visited it before) but ended up being a favorite.

St. Lucia

The zip lining was fun but I did not realize there would be an hour boat road each way. Also the transportation from the boat to the zip lining location was horrible and unorganized. we waited for over an hour each way. I definitely would not do this again.

Grenada

We were a group of 11 and wanted to do something other than a beach so someone suggested going to the rain forest. When we got off the ship we asked about this and were offered a car for the day @$20 per person. We could do whatever we wanted before and after the hike in the rain forest. The driver gave us a great tour during the 40 minute drive and coordinated everything when we got there. A guide was provided for us once we arrived and we had an amazing hike to the waterfall. The guide was humorous and attentive... This was the island I was least looking forward to but ended up being my favorite. Great, honest people..!!
