My husband and I chose the Carnival Pride for our honeymoon and first cruise. The basis of its appeal was the fact that it was inexpensive and allowed for a flexible itinerary. We had days where we kept ourselves busy with activities and days where we lounged and relaxed. This review is from the perspective of a first time cruiser but we hope it is helpful to others considering a cruise for their vacation.
-Affordability-We booked the cruise through a travel agent and paid for the gratuity upfront. I recommend this as it was one less thing to worry about during our vacation. The drinks and restaurants on the ship were fairly priced.
-Atmosphere- We enjoyed the "theme" that the designer created for the ship. Personal preferences aside, there are areas that appeal to all interests. We loved the fact that we could find quiet places to lounge at any time of day. The sunset garden around the theatre is almost always empty if you're looking for a nice table by a window.
Being first time cruisers we didn't know what to expect the rooms to be like. We read reviews that they were all small so we chose cabin 6262 an extended balcony room on the aft of the ship. There was room under the bed for our bags, nightstands with doors, three closets and some drawers. The room included a safe for valuables. The bathroom was a shoebox. As far as the size goes we personally wouldn't pick anything smaller for future cruises. We loved having our own balcony and our view! It gave us an extra place for us to retreat to for some privacy and nice views. A smaller room might not bother others if they plan on being out all day. We were warned that we could hear noise from the ship motors or from the crew arranging deck chairs in the morning. We heard nothing from the crew or our neighbors. We did hear the ship running however if you are use to white noise when you sleep this won't bother you. It was noticeable but not obnoxious. Overall we recommend the aft cabins. Unless we get a suite next time this is exactly what we'd pick again.
Our tour guide was very un-enthused. We couldn't hear a thing she said. We had to ride our bikes in a single file line. Not much freedom to ride around the island and explore.
