We were excited to experience a P and O ship after several Celebrity cruises. Upon embarkation, the first thing we noticed was the absence of a welcome drink or any staff to welcome us aboard and offer directions to the restaurants or cabins. Once in our cabin on deck A, our cabin steward came to introduce himself. He was curt and appeared miserable: the poor chap was possibly tired from the Christmas cruise. The cabin was well appointed and we were happy with the large towels and White Company toiletries. Food in Horizon buffet restaurant was poor - especially the late selection on New Year's Eve when many revellers ended up queuing for a very small selection of low grade options including a few rolls, Christmas cake and mince pies or the hot options of chips, watery lasagne and pizza slices that had dried up and were almost impossible to bite. Again, Celebrity's Ocean View Café offered very good quality food including the late night selection. Entertainment was poor. The dance troop tried hard but the performances were not to a good standard and the Abba dance show was really not suitable for a family show. Some sections would not have been out of place in a Gentlemen's club. Food in the Medina restaurant was of a good standard and we found something we liked every evening. Afternoon tea in the Medina was also good. There were lots of nice places to sit and have a drink. We enjoyed the costa coffee on board and did try to eat in Sindhu but left it too late to book. The launderettes on board looked very well equipped and tidy: this is not a facility we have found on Celebrity. This was supposed to be a celebration cruise as it included New Year's Eve. However, there was very little atmosphere. Overall, Celebrity ticks all of our boxes. We missed their excellent customer focus and attention to detail.

Poor Service, Entertainment Below Expectations; No Comparison to Celebrity
