A vacation is only as enjoyable as you make it. While on board the MSC Orchestra, I felt like vacationers were going out of their way to be unhappy and complain. We had a fantastic time aboard the Orchestra, with the only downfall being the often rude vacationers. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the Orchestra is a European ship. Therefore, they do NOT do things the "American" way. Announcements are made in multiple languages, Italian, and German being some of them. The majority, if not all the staff are not from North America, and do not speak English as their first language. However, communication was never a problem, in fact, we had long conversations with the employees in English. Embarkation was well organized and simple. We were greeted with a welcoming buffet on the ship by noon, and had our luggage in our rooms just after 1:00pm. At that time, we met our room attendant, who was helpful and hard working the entire week, providing us with fresh towels twice daily, fruit, ice and lovely accommodations during our cruise. The food was good. I am a picky eater, but had no problems in the dining room each night. Our waiter was amazing, and we got to know him quite well over the week. The food was on our table quickly each night (we were a small table of 3-4 people). The desserts were enjoyable both in the dining room and the buffet. Appetizers were served around midnight every night, with a different theme every day. The Midnight Buffet was a spectacle of carved fruits, breads and ice sculptures. It was very extravagant, not to mention delicious! The entertainment was the highlight of the cruise. Both the Activities team, as well as the nightly shows kept us laughing and entertained. The shows in the theatre were full of talented acrobatics, singers, dancers and magicians, who are well above the average level of talent found on cruise ships. The late-evening shows in the lounges, performed by the Activities Team had us in hysterics each night! The ship was kept extremely clean at all times! Crew members were highly visible, walking around with brooms and dustpans. As well, the dEcor of the ship is very elegant and beautiful! Disembarking was time consuming, but very organized. MSC is different than most American cruise lines, and if you go in, comparing them, you will probably not be satisfied. However, if you go in with an open mind, expecting to have a great time, and embrace different cultures, you can expect an amazing vacation.
