Britannia Cruise Review by Cruiseian
- Sail Date: December 2015
- Destination: Eastern Caribbean
It is the first time that we have taken a holiday abroad during the British winter and enjoyed every minute both on board and on shore. We had a standard balcony cabin on G Deck and was very impressed with both the size of the cabin and the facilities. We were pleased that we chose a balcony cabin as it was lovely sitting there on a morning drinking our early cuppa looking out over a new Caribbean island. On an evening before we ate we also had a nice chilled glass of wine sat on the balcony in the warm Caribbean air.
We were on Freedom dining and this suited us as we don't like being tied to a particular dining time when on holiday. Initially we shared a table with other guests and they were fine, but due to the small chance of ending up with a professional moaner on our table we later opted for a table for two. The food in the Meridian restaurant was excellent, both in quality and choice. In fact we ate there on all nights except the first night in the Horizon buffet and one night in Sindhu restaurant (again both were excellent). Breakfast was always a leisurely affair in the Horizon buffet restaurant. Excellent choice to suit all tastes and diets - Fresh fruit, porridge, cereals, continental, cakes, full English, 6 types of eggs (unfortunately this wasn't enough for one moaning lady sat next to us who complained that her fried egg wasn't up to standard lol.
On shore we opted to take local taxis as many excursions left at 08.30 am and this would have meant setting the alarm, which again is a no no on holiday. Every trip was great from the lovely beaches to the rain forests and waterfalls. Possibly Tortola was just about our favourite island, although the last day at the Boatyard beach and bar in Barbados was great fun.
The Disembarkation process ran very smoothly and professionally, thank you to all the staff that enabled the return home to be as painless as possible.
To summarise if I could get a great value deal on the Britannia for similar to what we paid this year then I would snatch P and O's hand off. 2 weeks in the warm Caribbean v 2 weeks of cold, damp pre Christmas madness in the UK - no contest!!
