This is the high priced lobster at Cagneys. Had to pay extra to get it.

We took the Norwegian Dawn out of New Orleans. We arrived at 10:30 as we were instructed and we were 'herded' into a room with, what I estimated to be, about 1100 other people before they decided to start loading the ship at 1:30pm. If I never go to New Orleans again I won't be disappointed. Absolute dirty town and trying to get a taxi to the unloading area was a nightmare....we were in a 1/2 mile away and it took us 45 minutes to get to the point of getting out of taxi. Great Taxi driver but the meter just kept ticking away. Once on the ship our experience was nice. Everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our room steward was fantastic (Samson) and all of the staff seemed to have a perpetual smile. Every where we went though the ship was always looking to take more money out of your pocket. "here let us take your picture" "Would you like a drink from the bar?" "our items are 'duty' free for your purchasing pleasure" "Would you like to join us for our wine tasting?" After all of the add on fees when booking the cruise the price had already ballooned to almost twice what they had indicated it would be from the get go. 18% gratuity on your initial fee, Do you want bunk beds? Oh well if you want your beds together that will be an extra cost too. I was mislead on numerous things from my NCL travel consultant as well. Don't expect to watch and real network television in your stateroom...they have two competing news channels and a movie channel. No real networks. I could go on and on about my disappointments with actual cruising but I again want to praise the staff on the boat. They are the true 'gems' of the whole trip. Favorite part was going to the beach at Costa Maya, I found paradise there! Just a 5 minute taxi ride from the boat. I'd love to go there again.....next time I'll take a plane though! Be very aware ahead of time the excursion prices you pay for through the ship and highly overpriced compared to the very same cruise you can get when you get off the ship. The cruise lines try to scare you that if you don't book through them you might get left behind.... we only booked one through the ship. After that we did the get our own route. We booked A three hour tour of Roatan in a airconditioned van with one other couple cost us $60 total. I don't believe the ship had anything under $125! We can live with a tour like that.

Cabin Review

Inside

Cabin IX

Cabin was small but that was to be expected. I wanted the cheapest I could get I suffer motion sickness pretty easily and didn't want any outside windows and wanted to be midship with the least amount of motion. It was just two of us (husband and wife), plenty tight but sufficient for us. I would not have wanted a third person. Closet and drawer space was more than enough. Our room steward kept us up to date and room was always clean. Shower was supplied with soap and shampoo. It was not real large but enough room for even me as a very large man. I don't think you'd want it too much larger or else if you did get into rough sea's you might fall on your rump and really get hurt! Television channels were minimal but I should have expected that....my NCL consultant told me I'd be able to get the network stations....He lied.

Port Reviews

Roatan

Walking through the 'sales area' (outside of the main area) I had a nice older gentlemen ask me if I'd like to take tour of the island. He said it would be $80 for 8 people in a van. I told him it was just me and my wife. He found one other couple and dropped the price down to a total of $60. We took a tour of the island for 3 hours and got our eyes opened. What a wonderful place with wonderful people and many living in absolute poverty. Showed us some of the living conditions of the locals (labor is $ 6 per day) and told us the island exist almost solely on tourism. It used to be a 'shrimping' island but when price of fuel went up many sold boats and made do with what they can via tourist. Also showed us a bit of the agriculture in the area. Well worth the $30 per couple he charged. I'd be happy to pass on the man's name and # if anyone would like to email me. He made our whole experience there a big positive.

Belize City

They tell you on the boat to not enter in to the town very far. We thought they were just trying to keep the sales where they made money too. We were wrong.....that town is 'ugly' and dangerous! We took a taxi ride around just to see the town...even the taxi driver told us how bad it was. I have no idea why the ship even stops there. If you have not already planned an excursion for this place....either find one from a local as you get off the ship or stay on the ship. This was not a nice town. Having said that I must admit, we did meet a couple absolute wonderful people in the sales area.

Costa Maya

Our only beach day out the whole seven day cruise! We took a 5 minute taxi ride to the Tropicante. This was suggested to us by our cabin steward....what an absolute wonderful experience! There were some young ladies there giving hour long massages on tables for $25. We sat on a white sand beach under palm trees and listened to our blood pressure drop! Rented some snorkel equipment ($5) and swam out the the reef and snorkeled in the prettiest water I have ever seen. I could live in this place! Do not plan an excursion in Costa Maya...just grab a taxi, go to the beach and dream of living there! Biggest downfall was the ship made us be back on board by 2pm. Best darn place they showed us all week and they cut us off at the ankles.

New Orleans

If I ever see this city and port again it will be too soon....filthy dirty and unorganized. No place for an outsider...
