I realize this ship is older, but that does not forgive terrible service and barely mediocre food. After arriving on the ship, I immediately noticed that the ship was very outdated. It is obvious the ship has been around since the 90's. I read that they upgraded/remodeled a few years back, but you would never be able to tell. I have been on other cruise lines and you see things on the Spirit that you would never see on other cruise lines, like areas in desperate need of paint, rusting parts, glass that looks like it has not been cleaned in months.
The service was bad from day one and never got better. I later read that due to this ships age, they use it as a training ship for new employees and employees that need guidance. It is obvious because most employees were clueless and could not answer the most basic questions. There certainly was a handful out outstanding employees that provided excellent service, but they were very hard to find. The bartenders barely made eye contact with you and were always complaining that their bars were not set up properly. I hear quite a bit of complaining from the bar staff. The bars and pools were always understaffed and if you wanted a drink, good luck finding a server. You had to get up from the pool and head over to the bar and wait 15-20 minutes in line.
The second day I went to the spa and got a 75 minute massage. The massage started at 9:00 a.m. and at 9:50 the masseuse said we were all finished. She left the room as I got back in to my robe. Upon her return, I asked her if that was 75 minutes because it went by so fast, she said "Yes Sir it was". I told her that was rather impossible as we began at 9:00 a.m. and it is no 9:55 a.m. She then said "My apologizes Sir, we can continue." To which I informed her that I was already dressed and that she should just charge me for the 50 minutes I had.
Trip to St. John's was amazing.
Tood a cab to Maho Beash (Airport Beach).
