Traveled with children

Thanks to all previous posters - we took much of your advice. I won't reiterate everything published already, just a few key messages based on our return last week. 1) This is a great cruise for families with kids under 10. The Disney surprises, service and magic touches are wonderful. But set your expectations - traveling with kids is memory making family time, but seldom relaxing. To quote a couple in the elevator one afternoon - "we've got 30 minutes - you head to the adult pool to find some shade and I'll bring the drinks". 2) Loved the character signed photo matte. Please everyone, don't abuse this free service. We brought one 11 x 14 regular white matte, 6 sharpies and put them all in a 2 1/2 gallon ziploc bag. Brought to guest services on the first day and had returned to our room on the final night with 12 signatures. A great keepsake. 3) Don't miss the show the final night, Disney Dreams. It was wonderful. We never had a problem seating for the shows - arrive about 10 minutes prior and you'll be fine. 4) Characters - we had photos taken with every character without a problem, most on Castaway Cay in the morning. Read the Personal Navigator and plan a little for your must haves. The lines really do move fast. 5) We had no problem bringing on many bottles of water, two bottles of wine and a small bottle of vodka (which ironically we didn't drink at all). Most were in our checked bags. FYI - beware of the drinks served on arrival, not only are you buying the drink, you're also buying the "keepsake" glass. If you don't want the glass, order directly from the bar and save a few dollars. 6) I know there's disagreement on this, but we thought dinner food was good, not great. We did love the seafood lunch on the day-at-sea, including the sushi. Morning room service is a nice treat - you can always hit the buffet later if you're still hungry.
