What can I say -- in my estimation, everything was almost perfect on the Nieuw Amsterdam's November 29th sailing to the Western Caribbean.
The staff: smiling, polite, hard-working -- without exception. Special props to our stateroom attendants Nanang and Oom, to Woody in the Pinnacle Grill, to Patricia at the front desk, to Rini and Yuri in Tamarind -- the Asian restaurant.
The food: Some dishes were extraordinary, a few were a bit too creative. All in all, we always found something we really enjoyed, with huge kudos to Tamarind's chef, who prepared the best steak (yes, steak!) I have ever had -- coated in wasabi and soy. My husband loved the banana soup in the main restaurant, while the cod encrusted with almonds was to die for.
Our cabin faced the wake of the ship, on deck 6. It was nicely laid out, with lots of storage. There is a huge amount of storage under the bed, and storage inside the desk stool as well. Motion was more evident in this location, but nothing we couldn't handle, and it certainly didn't keep us up or make us sick. Bathroom was larger than most, with a tub. Balcony was a nice size, unlike the newer ships that are cutting balcony space. We would take this room again in a heartbeat.
