We have just returned from our very first, and most likely our last, cruise, following this dreadful experience. We travelled from Sydney on the 1st November and arrived in Perth, via New Zealand, on the 16th November 2015. The ship was the Radiance of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean (RC). What a massive disappointment.
Meet and greet staff at the terminal were rude and/or completely absent on arrival for embarkation.
The Radiance of the Seas was basically a one star hotel standard whilst RC charged five star prices for everything.
Old and tired. Furniture was threadbare and worn. Lifejackets not in wardrobe indicated - potentially dangerous if an emergency had occurred. Wardrobe door hinge broken. No catches to secure door when ship rolling. Drawers opening and closing when ship rolling. Room service a joke as earliest from ordering a simple pot of tea was 30 minutes and the longest 1 hour 40 minutes. No tea or coffee making facilities. Only water available was to buy from mini-bar from fridge that was not cold.
We used the shuttle bus arranged by Royal Caribbean (RC). We were met by an army of volunteers who showed us around the city, anywhere we wanted to go. RC wanted to charge us an extortionate amount to do what the volunteers did for free.
We took the shuttle bus into Dunedin and did our own thing. The poor rating is because RC tried to sell us bus tickets for multiple journeys instead of the one return. We were only there for a few hours and the distance from ship to town took around half an hour. Why would we want multiple tickets?
The trip included a visit to a market specialising in Australian Craft. The village we were taken to was literally, totally shut with the exception of one shop which was, The Treasures of Istanbul. Nothing Australian at all.
A good trip. Excellent views from Mount Lofty. Interesting winery.
This is where we joined the ship. The meet and greet staff were rude. Once on board there was no one, al all, to direct us to the cabin.
