We went on the Jewel of the Seas for a 10 day Panama Canal cruise. Unfortunately the cold windy weather started in Miami and followed us for most of the cruise. Day one was a day at sea and a great day to get to know the ship and all that it has to offer. They have a great staff, very friendly and helpful, and almost everyone we came into contact with tried to remember our names. That always amazes me since I have a hard time remembering the names of people I know, never mind strangers. The second day we were supposed to stop in Labadee Haiti, but because of the winds and very high seas, the tender boats could not come out to get us, therefore turning day two into a day at sea also. The activities people did a great job at keeping us entertained. We played Wii baseball and of course on a cruise ship there's always Bingo! Day three was a scheduled day at sea again, and there was plenty to keep us busy. It was another very rough day and some of the outdoors activities had to be cancelled. The ship did a LOT of rocking and rolling. Fortunately for me the only side effect I get from it is I sleep a lot, so it was a very restful day! That night we went to their mystery dinner. It's an extra $49 per person, but it was a lot of fun. We followed the story of a three way affair and the murder of the husband. It started with drinks in the Safari Club and then moved on to dinner at the Portofino's restaurant. The food was great and the show was very entertaining ( I won't give away who did it!) Day four we went to Cartagena Columbia. This was great city and I'll go into it more on the port review. Day five we went through the Panama Canal. What an awesome thing to experience! Again though, I will go into that in the port review. Day six was another sea day. I forgot to mention that the evening entertainment was spectacular. One night they had an Argentina couple who danced the tango with such precision it was just amazing. And to think they did it on a stage that was constantly in motion is even more amazing! There was a juggler who was great, he was very funny and entertaining. He rode a unicycle that was about 7 feet tall with out killing himself and he really got the audience involved in the show. There was also a night with a violinist. I would have thought that would be boring, but I would have been very wrong. He played all genres of music from classical to rock and danced and ran through the theater making it look very easy. He was great! The RC dancers and singers were great too, lots of energy and wonderful voices. Day seven was in Puerto Limon in Costa Rica. Not a very nice port, and hopefully people don't think all of Costa Rica is like that. Day eight was yet another sea day. Day nine was in Grand Cayman I love this island! And the last day was another sea day. I don't know if I like that many sea days, but it was worth it to see the Canal.

Cabin Review

Cabin is an average cruise ship size. The window was a round port hole and the waves were so high that they splashed against our windows through the whole cruise. We were near the front of the ship, so we heard the anchors drop when we got to port and we heard the stabilizers while we were sailing. It got noisy because of the high waves. The shower has sliding circular doors so it seems like there is more room than there actually is and it keeps the water from splashing out onto the floor.
