What a let-down. Nice new furnishings and comfortable cabin, but that's where it ended. The bath was old and you could only use the shower if you were three foot tall. Had to pay for everything (ice cream, room service). The pantry seemed like a good idea, but the same food day in day out for 10 days gets a bit monotonous. You can't eat a meal from a coffee table and older people cannot sit on bar stools. The Waterfront restaurant (main dining room) is too small, people were being turned away.
No activities to do, except casino and trivia (need a much larger venue for trivia, had to claim a table an hour before or couldn't get in). No library. No games room, or even tables to play cards on. Internet station was a joke. Bingo was $30 a ticket, to win $24!! In Esperance two tenders broke down (lucky we didn't need them in an emergency) so took hours to get to shore. Coming back was worse. Hour and a half lined up in 38 degree heat. The café nearby came out with jugs of water, P and O did nothing. People were collapsing in the heat. I personally heard three calls for emergency medical assistance. It was about 8 o'clock before everybody got back to the ship. The café, hotel and yacht club were terrific, I cannot thank the Town of Esperance enough. We never caught sight of the captain, don't even know what he looked like.
No maps of the ship on board (were told we would get them in Sydney). No newspapers. The TV was just old shows on a cycle. No new movies. No nothing. If you like drinking, fine, there were plenty of bars. If not, forget it. The crew were terrific, not blaming them. The management of P and O needs to have a long hard look at itself in terms of service. Could write a lot more.
Nice comfortable bed, updated bathroom, except for bath and shower.
