It was Gasparilla Day when we embarked on our cruise, so we knew traffic would be heavy so we left early. We only live across the bay from the Port. This was the first time taking a cruise out of this port and we found navigating it very easy to do so. The only thing is that now upon embarkation port officials call over the Royal Caribbean representative when you have liquor in your carry on and they confiscate it. After that, it was few short minutes after 11 am and we were allowed to board. We ate lunch in Windjammer while waiting until 1 pm for our cabins. It was a little chilly so most were hanging out inside rather than outside. We had the muster, unpacked and went to the dining room for dinner. We had the very best server ever. His name was Andrew Lloyd Smart. How could you forget that name. He was on top of his game. Not one night did anyone have anything wrong. In fact, dinner in the dining room was very, very good each night. On to the best part, we were about to dock in Costa Maya when we pulled away. The captain came on the loudspeaker and said - we would not be going to Costa Maya but would be full speed ahead to Cozumel and would arrive at 3 pm and stay overnight docked. This was one of the best things that could have happened. This is most unheard of to stay docked overnight in a port. So we were early for our excursion, Jungle Buggy Trek. This was the best excursion we have taken so far. You drive these 2 seater polaris cars over rocks by a beach in a natural preserve. This company only does this excursion for Royal and only 10 people from our ship were able to experience it. For the ladies out there, you have to wear a helmet, face mask and goggles and will get dirty. Wear black clothes and sneakers. However, the scenery and fun you will have will outweigh this stuff. We had a great mexican feast and sat on the beach in a hammock until we had to go back to the ship. Overall, the ship, the crew and the food were one of the best we have experienced. I guess I should mention that we traveled with another couple and that made the cruise much more fun overall. For platinum members - they had a great cocktail party on the last day with food, drinks and champagne. Also, casino treated husband well with 2 royal flushes on video poker at $1000 each. Enjoy and happy sailing!!
