We joined the Triumph in San Juan and sailed back to Galveston. This is one of Carnival's Journey Cruises which are offered occasionally and are different than their normal itineraries. We arrived in San Juan a day early and really enjoyed exploring Old San Juan. We stayed at El Convento, a boutique hotel close to the cruise terminal. Cab fare from the airport was a bargain $20. In contrast the short hop from the hotel to the cruise terminal was $15. The hotel was first class and we loved the walking tour they arranged for us that focused on the El Morro fort. Be aware that all their dining is in an un-air conditioned courtyard.

We boarded at 4:30 for a 10 PM departure with no delays anywhere. Two of our bags arrived within an hour, but the third only arrived after I had the room steward search for me. It had a sticker on it saying "unknown ship" even though there were two undamaged Carnival Triumph luggage tags on it. This is the third time we have had a bag stray in eight cruises, but have never actually lost one.

We chose this cruise for the destinations and the things Carnival does well. The Triumph lacks minibars, steak house and other features of the new ships. Carnival has also done away with chocolates on the pillow, and table clothes in the dining room. In the end we were very happy with the cruise. The highlights were-
