My son and I took the Voyager out of Galveston on January 25. This was my 36th cruise and his 13th. We flew in a couple of nights early and did some sightseeing in the Houston area. We arrived at the pier shortly before 11 a.m. on departure day and were checked in within a few minutes. Boarding started promptly at 11:30. As diamond C&A members, we boarded first and didn't even get hassled by the photographer. Cabins are not available until 1 p.m. so we had our lunch in the Windjammer while waiting.
The Ship
The Voyager is getting to be an older ship; however, it is very well maintained. There were a few signs of wear and tear but they were hard to notice. Maintenance was constant throughout the ship. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9, which was very convenient to the concierge lounge, pools, and Windjammer. It was of typical configuration with relatively comfortable beds. The pillows, however, leave something to be desired. They are very uncomfortable. Our cabin steward was excellent, taking care of all services promptly. It was noticeable that chocolates are no longer left on your pillow at night. This is apparently another cost-cutting decision by RCI.
