My husband and I traveled to Rome from California, we had arranged transportation to the Hotel Golden and found ourselves greeted by the Loria family which we found to be a true delight and a place we hope to return to some day. We highly recommend this small quaint family owned and run hotel. Great location and an excellent, scrumptious home cooked breakfast each morning.
We arrived at the Windstar Pier by a personable English speaking friend of the Golden. This had been arranged by one of the family members prior to our arrival in Rome. Our embarkation was very smooth and efficient. We arrived a bit early, it was suggested we leave our luggage and perhaps go into town and return after one hour. When we got back to the pier we given our room assignment and paper work to enter the gangplank and were within a matter of minutes, discovering our cabin and in awe of the generous size. We have never been on a ship with both a walk in closet and a bath tub and thoroughly enjoyed it all for the next seven nights and days.
This being our first Windstar Cruise, but not our first cruise experience by any means, was delightful and enchanting!
The smaller ship made accessing the intriguing, quaint ports possible. Some of the main reasons we choose Windstar was their lower passenger capacity. Our ship actually only had 130 guest aboard. The all adult passenger guest list was a definite plus. And their reputation for guest satisfaction.
The cuisine was fabulous, as was the service from all the crew. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Candles Restaurant which once aboard ship we were able to make reservations for the evening of our choosing. May have been the evening breeze or perhaps the table for two overlooking the harbor, but this was an especially superb meal and romantic evening for us both. We were impressed and pleased with the assortment and quality of the food at the Barbeque. The crew's entertainment was both enjoyable and a talent we were surprised they all had! Very fun evening.
The excursion of Monte Carlo was extraordinary, being the first time visiting The Grand Casino was a highlight. Champagne at the Cafe' de Paris was a memorable moment and appeared to be a fun time for all. Being the "gambler's" that we are, we had both a lucky and somewhat fortuitous adventure at the Roulette table.
We had one Windstar tour cancelled due to low attendance and another due to a change of Port. For us, it was all exciting and the change of Ports did not spoil a thing for us. We actually found a private tour through a Conserzio Taxi with a great English speaking man named Carlo, taxi number 9, in Livorno that took the two of us through the Tuscan wine and olive countryside, with stops of our choosing. We next continued on to Florence with him providing a complete description of the highlights. He allowed ample time for shopping and meals before we continued to Pisa with more time there as we liked. He provided us with a personalize tour that we will remember for our lifetime.
Disembarkation was very swift and although it started to rain, Windstar thought of everything and had outdoor tarps assembled to keep us dry.
We are already looking forward to our next Windstar Cruise.
The suite was very spacious; tub, walk-in closet and open sitting area facing the French balcony which provided a delightful breeze. We had the balcony open most of the time on board. It also provided us a wonderful starboard view of the coast and ports as we sailed westerly. The bathroom was spacious as was the entire cabin. Sitting area with both a couch and a couple of chairs. The bed was very comfortable. Our State room attendant was personable and efficient. The amenities were well thought and appreciated. Our only complaint in the cabin was that we could not hear the announcements from Captain Rivelle and staff which were provided by an intercom system that did not appear to work properly. We enjoyed the Bose sound system, as to the television, I don't believe we ever found ourselves bored enough to turn it on! In retrospect we may have been a bit more informed of the daily goings on aboard the Legend if we had located the ships channel and viewed some of their daily happenings. We were so busy and having such a great time, we don't even know if the set worked or the coverage was worth watching.
We went to the Grasse Perfumery while in Monaco, booked through Windstar and enjoyed the tour very much. The guide was very good.View All 12 Grasse Perfume Factory Reviews
We would have preferred more time in St. Paul de Vence than was allowed or scheduled, we felt rushed in spite of this being the one rainy day during our cruise. We had two guides and one we found difficult to understand her English. The tour bus left us off blocks away from the tender dock, where we were to be transported to the Legend. The tender proved a bit difficult for some of us to manage with the current and somewhat stormy day.View All 9 St. Paul de Vence Reviews
