We loved our 11 day journey from Galveston to San Juan. Most of the folks on the cruise were staying to do the 10 day return trip and we wish we could have done this too.

We have taken 7 cruises and always on Carnival so we cannot compare with other cruise lines.

Embarkation went smoothly and although the lines were long, the fact that they were constantly in motion helped it feel fast. We usually purchase Faster to the Fun but they were sold out on this trip. Debarkation went pretty smooth as well. We stayed in our cabin until we heard our zone called. Get a porter, that line goes faster than the other.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8B

Everything in our cabin was perfect except for the lack of a fridge (which we were aware of ahead of time) and the couch looking a little tired out. Bed was super comfortable. Our cabin steward brought extra pillows. Once we figured out the A/C and that we had to turn the little thingy on the ceiling to open it up, it was great. We love having a balcony to sit on and would never go without one now. Thinking that it might be nice to try an aft balcony next time.

Our cabin steward introduced himself on the first night and showed us how to contact him directly if we needed anything. We asked him for extra hangers, pillows and to keep our ice bucket full and he did all of these things and more. He and the other stewards on the floor (Lido deck) always said hello and asked about our day.

Port Reviews

Galveston

Hire yourself a taxi and ask him to give you a tour around the historical houses. Stroll down the main street and visit some of the great little shops. Good restaurants here and food very good but pricey.

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

We love Grand Cayman. Although the entire ship heads to 7 mile beach which is great and has great shore snorkelling we head to a smaller area to enjoy with the locals. If you are having trouble getting a taxi to where you want to go, go out onto the street and there are lots there waiting to serve you that don't have access to the 'taxi area'.

Aruba

We went outside of the port area and found drivers with vans offering island tours. We agreed on a price of $20 per person and waited until 6 other people joined our group. We had a great tour of the island and were dropped off at beautiful Eagle Beach. Although this was a great day, Aruba wasn't my favourite island due to its arid nature. I much prefer the greenery and flowers of an island that gets rain.

Bonaire

We had a most amazing day in Bonaire. We took a taxi for $2.50 each to Eden Beach Resort. Rented a chair there for $5. Had a really great lunch in the bar there.

Grenada

Took a private tour. What a beautiful lush island! The Island of Spice has so many fruit and nut trees! Unfortunately our tour took so long we didn't have any beach time left so can't comment on the beach.

Martinique

Took the water taxi and ended up at a great resort on a beautiful little beach. Great snorkelling here. Pricey to eat though and very French.

St. Maarten

We love St. Maarten. This time we took a cab to Maho Beach by the airport to check out the planes landing. Very cool but so very crowded. We had googled the arrival schedule (don't worry about departures, they go the other way) while on the ship so we knew that between 1015 and 1130 was the best time. We took another cab after that to Orient Beach which was great.
