Teacher conference weekend in NJ. Took a weekend cruise to the Bahamas. We wanted to try out one of these new Mega ships having been on all sorts of cruises and ships in the past. Check- in was a breeze. Our room (junior suite) was nice/standard, no complaints. That is really the only good reviews I can give of this experience. The ship is BIG, too big. The promenade reminded me of a Mall at Christmas time. CROWDED Are manners and common courtesy dead. Everywhere we went, crowds. Tried to get breakfast in the Windjammer. Long line. Tried to make a reservation at Chop Grille....Full. Tried to sign up for a show (yes Sign-up). It was full. Took my daughter to the skating rink. Closed for the cruise. We did get to see the water show in the outdoor theater at the back of the boat. I am not even sure how to describe it.
Went to Main seating dining.... Couldn't find our table. Interestingly enough neither could the maitre d'. Our server/waitress was better suited for a Red Lobster than a "formal" dining room. Courses were served haphazardly. The Somali had a poor knowledge of his products. The menu so lacked selection and creativity that all of us settled for the steak. The Cesare salad was tasteless ( I didn't even think that was possible). Our dinners arrived, they were horrible...we left at that point. Went to the windjammer to try to "salvage". Dinner only to find it closed at 9 o'clock. Ended up with pizza an icecream on the promenade.
Next night we were able to book the Sambra Grill, a "Brazilian Steakhouse", thirty dollar/person up charge. We have been to numerous examples Brazilian steakhouse and I can tell you this one was designed by a person who read about a Brazilian Steakhouse on Wikipedia but had never actually been to one. Food quality was ok... We all got GI distress that evening.
Like every other junior suite we have booked in the past
